Proven to be an institution with a difference, Devi Balika Vidyalaya is dedicated to the vision of providing disciplined, educated, versatile and impeccable scholars. The school was founded as Government Girl’s College, Castle Street on 15th January 1953 and Deshabandu Dr. (Mrs) Wimala De Silva was the founding principal who was a prominent Sri Lankan educationist. Since its establishment, enrolling 53 students selected by a placement system. Presently the students are admitted to Devi Balika Vidyalaya at Grade six based on the results of (an Island wide) Scholarship Examination.
Devi Balika Vidylaya has been a forerunner in the field of education and instrumental in obtaining the fully fledged rounded personalities. Today, Devi Balika Vidyalaya provides education for 35000 students. The academic staff consists of 127 Teachers and the number of Nonacademic staff is 36.
The school curriculum is successfully taught in both Sinhala medium and English medium. Students of Devi Balika Vidyalaya can follow one of the five major fields of study.
